Luca Lush - Go Ahead And Use His Paintbrush

Luca Lush is a DJ/producer from New York. I actually saw him perform two years ago at Club Slake in

New York before I even knew who he was. I was going to see Shawn Wasabi perform, and Luca mentioned that they're buddies and actually tried to collaborate before (the project didn't come to fruition, but I still think that's cool!)

Turns out, Luca Lush is one of the most promising up-and-coming producers right now (especially in the Future Bass scene - one that I’m quite fond of). I met Luca before his set on 4/20/17 at Jewel in Manchester, NH. He was the headlining act booked by Evan Lange of the Electric Impulse group. It was a very conversational and informal interview, as I had already learned a lot about Luca through this interview and especially through this Reddit AMA (“ask me anything”). I would check those out if you want to learn more about this artist in addition to what I have below.

One thing new that I brought up with him was I commented on his specificity with a question on the Reddit AMA pertaining to his production. He gave great details on a response to a fan question pertaining to a “drum kick” that he uses in his production. You don’t usually get such a great answer from a producer about production. Luca responded to my surprise with this: “You can give anyone the paint brush that you use…it doesn’t mean that they’re going to paint the same picture. You just gotta do you.” Check out the Reddit AMA linked above if you'd like to see his actual response.

On his experience performing at his first festival, Firefly, in 2015 in Colorado, Luca said he had a very cool experience, and it was “really lit” even though it was a different kind of performance called a “silent disco.” He said there were about 500 people in attendance which was surprising to him (in a good way at the time).

On being called, "the future of future bass” Luca said he likes to joke about that but also notes that he, “wears many hats,” and clarified by saying that he doesn’t produce just one type of music. He added, “I don’t like putting a box around what I’m doing [even though that actually] helps people get an idea of what I do.”

I mentioned that I introduced his music to some of my students (I teach at a high school) – he laughed at that. I told him I played them his original track, “I Can Tell.” I describe it as a combination of funky, upbeat and electronic. He said that “I Can Tell” is actually his mom’s favorite track which is cool because he also said his mom was coming to the show tonight! >> Click this link to view Luca's tweet about this. On top of that, he mentioned that he himself provided the vocals on that track, and he remained humble, saying, “I’m not a very good singer.” I disagree! What do you guys think of the track? Leave it in the comments below !!

The crowd was primed for Luca’s Set. Bombtree, HIRAM (check out my interviews with them conducted on this very same night), Shawn White, and then Dude N’ Guy did an amazing job opening! Long story short – Luca Lush killed it! The energy was off the charts, and it was a great performance with a wide variety of music styles incorporated in his set. Too bad I left literally minutes before the end of his set…because I heard later that he went B2B with HIRAM at an after party until roughly 5AM...!!
